About the project
Issuu is one of the world’s largest content publishing platforms, where users can create flipbooks and content they can publish and share. I worked on the Social Posts editor. The feature was in an MVP state, and the share functionality didn’t exist. My task was to design a social post sharing experience within a tight deadline with the business objective of increasing the number of monthly active creators’ shares and downloads of social posts.
The problem
You simply couldn’t share a social post. And the project manager and I also identified an opportunity to add social posts to the message you get when you’ve published your publication.
Empathizing with the users
To understand the users the product manager and reviewed our assumptions and looked at what Issuu creators currently shared so we could tailor for their needs.
We mapped our assumptions about why, what, and where Issuu creators share, and ranked the importance and confidence.
With the UX researcher, we looked at what Issuu users share on social media.
And we formed user stories that we could build the experience around.
Defining the platform strategy
The engineers and I investigated the different platforms to understand their constraints and feasibility so we could decide which ones to create integrations for.
We decided to build integrations for Facebook Pages, LinkedIn, and Instagram Business.
Designing the experience
I created the user flow and wireframes to get early feedback on my ideas from the team, which I then used for creating the high-fidelity design.
Usability test and improvements
To test the ease of use I created a prototype and tested it with a usability test on usertesting.com.
- Test: unmoderated remote usability test with tasks and questions
- Research goal: find out if the users understand the features and functionalities in the design
I grouped the data in an affinity diagram to get a visual overview of it.
The feedback was very positive, but showed a few usability issues:
Improvements addressing the usability issues
Final solution
The project enabled users to seamlessly share their social posts to several platforms.
- The number of monthly active creators’ shares and downloads of social posts increased by over 102%.
- And this implementation could also be used as a template for future sharing experiences on Issuu.
